Reference list: Websites

Introduction

Although not all open web materials are suitable as scientific evidence, some web content is reasonable, z. For example, technical research reports published online and open access peer-verified scientific journals. In addition, you can encounter some tasks that ask you to find and cite other web content.

apa 7 acknowledges that the distinction between different online resources can be difficult, as many types of work are now available online (see section 9.2). If you refer to a source accessible from a webpage, you must first determine what kind of material it is. The information could be a journal or magazine article, a personal website, a website of an organization, an institutional report, a blog post or online reference work. First follow APA's guidelines on the reference category, followed by additional information about the retrieval method if necessary.

Website

If you only mention the existence of a specific website in the text, it is not necessary to provide a full quote. You can simply include the URL in brackets in the body of your paper. Here is an example:

However, if you specify information from a specific web page, you must quote it with the author and date in the text with author and date as other sources:

You should then contain a complete reference list entry for the source:

These are the elements of the reference list entry for the above quoted website:

• Author . List individual authors as usual, with surname first, followed by first and middle initials. If no individual author is specified, use the name of the organization as an author.
• Date . To determine the publication year, look for information about when the page has been published or created, sometimes at the end of the page. Avoid using the copyright date listed at the bottom of each page of the site. Also note that the Apa-Style experts do not recommend the "last verified" using date information, as they do not always give a precise sense when the page has been published or if changes have been made when it was finally checked . APA also recommends using the most accurate date with the offered date, so that a month and a day are available, also included. If you can not find a year, use N.D. (ie no date) instead of the year.
• Website title . Use the unique title of the page. The title can occasionally be difficult to determine because websites have many levels. It can help scan the menu bars of the page to identify the title. Spare the title of the website and use the sentence capitalization. (Note that APA 6 guidelines had no website titles in italics.)
• Organization or website name . List the organization or the website name after the WebSpage title in plain text. If the Web page has no specific author, use the organization name instead of the author at the beginning of the reference entry and leave it to this location.
• url . Enter the URL for the specific page and not the home page of the organization. For web pages that contain content that is regularly updated or changed over time, a call date before the URL.Otherwise, you only contain the URL. The URL can be formatted in Microsoft Word in the blue text and underlined URL. (Note that APA 6 is recommended to remove the text formatting from the URL, but APA 7 recommends keeping the live hyperlinks for each document to be read on a screen.)

Other website nuances

Call date . A polling date is only included if the information may change over time. Some examples provided by APA 7 include UPTODAT articles, social media pages or profiles, Google Maps generated cards generated by Google Maps, and other website content that is frequently updated. The example is provided via a web page, has no content that is added or changed regularly, the call date is not required.

Direct Quotes . If you quote directly on the website, you can not record page number (because there are no pages). Instead, count the paragraphs from the top of the page to determine the sales number. Here is an example:
