Teachers can help their students to become intentional writer by judging what students already know about writing and what they need to learn. This can be done through the use of mentor texts that are specific examples of good writing.
1. Create the consciousness of the students for the "craft trains," or elements that use authors to reflect their writing their intention. For example, a writer can use an APT metaphor or a place that gives the reader lively a feeling where they are. Sound, point of view, detail, word use, action, dialog - these are all craft movements that authors can use.
2. Help the students to understand how to use their own crafts to create well-written text. You can do this by asking leading questions, eg. B. "Is that something you could do with your characters when you write the dialogue?" Or "Describe the sound in this book. When could it be useful to use such a sound?"
3. Put the students in different genera of literature and the special features of each one. Help them to notice how structure, voice, wording and conventions improve the meaning.
4. Students show that writing is a process with many decisions that ultimately support their intended meaning and read readers what they wrote. Teach the students that the first design is not necessarily the final design: revision is an important part of the writing process.
5. Use mentor texts as illustrative examples for writing students. For example, study the possibilities of how to use critical evidence to support insights into a topic, or to adapt the tempo of writing to suspend the important points or move the reader along.
